The true meaning of this word is "New City". It was called as Hosapete earlier but later the name was amended into Hospet. This city is situated in the heart of Karnataka. The government of Karnataka also calls this city as “A city with rich heritage “. It is believed that this city was built by the great king Krishna Deva Raya. He was the king of Vijaynagara Empire (1509 - 1529). He was the third king of Tuluva Dynasty. He built this city in 1520 honouring her mother Nagalambika.
It is also known as Fort Town of Karnataka as this city gave birth to many forts like Chitradurga Fort built by Tipu Sultan. Hospet plays a very crucial factor because it is situated closer to Hampi which is very popular among the tourists.
Being close to Hampi, it plays as role of gateway for the people coming from Westcoast and a way into Vijaynagara.
Historical ruins of Vijaynagara Empire can be traced in this city.
This city does not only tells you the tales of Krishna Deva Raya but it also has the traces of other great rulers being situated in the north of Karnataka.
Being historically important is the not only reason for such popularity of this city but this city has so many tourist attraction spots which makes this place more alluring.

Hospet major economy is based on mining other than that industrialization plays a key role in economic development of Hospet. There are about three thousand industries set up in hospet which provides employment to more than 15,000 people. The main specialization is in Iron ore mining in Hospet, the growing demand of iron worldwide led to boost in iron ore industry of Hospet. Majority of its iron ore goes in international market and especially in China. China is a big customer of iron from India
Infrastructure also offers cherry on cake for the economy of Hospet. Rapidly growing industries causing into the development of roads, health care, employment and infrastructure which is resulting into a more stable and developmental city. How to reach Hospet :
Travelling by air is the easiest mode of transportation to reach Hospet. Bellary Airport situated 75 km away from the Hospet is the nearest airport to Hospet.
Traveling by Train is also one of the transportation available to reach Hospet. You can easily get trains from major cities of India to Hospet. The train station is Hospet Junction.
Apart from these two options the city is well connected by roads and you can easily reach by the bus or car from major cities of India.
